Proust’s Original Pages

Lisa brings us something “something geeky-cool”! One page from the notebooks of Marcel Proust shows the extreme work that went into writing his masterpiece In Search of Lost Time:

I want to hold a Wikipedia Edit-A-thon here at Sweet Briar:

FAA policy on electronics during flight to likely change before 2014

Aaron found this bit of news. “According to people who work with an industry working group that the Federal Aviation Administration set up last year to study the use of portable electronics on planes, the agency hopes to announce by the end of this year that will relax their policy on using reading devices during takeoff and landing next year.

Apple’s data centers now powered by 100% renewable energy

Aaron noticed on FaceBook that “Apple released the 2012 update of its environmental policy pages and notes that the company is now using 100 percent renewable energy sources — solar, wind, hydro and geothermal — at its data centers.” Read more here:

Edible Cupcakes Instead of Edible Books in April

Every year libraries around the world celebrate the birthday of French gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin and National Library Week with an edible book fest.  Sweet Briar’s Edible Book Fest for 2013 will not be the normal contest of entries that must be edible and related to a book.  We will return to our normal celebration in 2014.

This year, the library staff invites you to come to the library and enjoy cupcakes made by library staff and volunteers that relate to books.  We thank you for your understanding as we undergo construction of new library space and the renovation and expansion of Sweet Briar’s libraries.

Please join us on Monday 1 April 2013 between 4:15 and 5:00 pm for book themed cupcakes and accept our thanks for putting up with disruption as we construct an improved library for you.
